The Construction of the Golden Gate Bridge began on the 5th of January 1933, with the official opening on may 27th 1937, the festivities lasting for a whole week. Surprisingly the project completed ahead of schedule and $1.3 Million under budget, with the total cost being $35 Million. It still amazes me when I look at older projects like this and the level of engineering required to complete them.

Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau Bridge opens in China
The world’s longest sea crossing bridge linking Hong Kong to Zhuhai and Macau opens in China after 9 years …

Hong Kong:A bridge connecting Hong Kong and the island of Macau is and the city of Zhuhai in mainland China is set to open after 9 years of construction. The bridge is part of a plan to create a better connected bay area including 11 cities and up to 68 Million people.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is attending a ceremony in Zhuhai on Tuesday the 23rd October 2018 and the official public opening is set for Wednesday the 24th October.

The bridge is 34 Miles ( 55km ) long
Contains 400,000 tonnes of steel
Built to withstand a category 8 Earthquake
Cost: 20 Billion
Contains 2 islands and a tunnel section which allows a mid section the be passable by ships
