David Pogue When it comes to tech, simplicity sells

A phrase we’ve all heard is ‘Tech support’, but it’s support for techs, not the average Joe or Joeann… if your not tech savvy they seem to be speaking in tongs, you sort of recognize most words, but it’s like they pulled them out of a hat or something, and then, just to make sure you’ve got no chance of understanding… they send you to India or the Philippines, forcing you to speak to someone who’s accent is sooo bad, you got no chance of understanding their basic English, yet alone their technobabel.
Now considering you were probably suffering from ’software rage’, before you resorted to the last resort, they then put on hold… don’t you just hate that. What ever happened to KISS? Why do they get geeks to explain geeky things in technobabel? What ever happened to plain English? What ever happened to Service? You bought their software, surely decent service is not too much to expect? But no, if you ring Microsoft, the first thing they ask for is your credit card number, a sort of wham bam thank you mam, no foreplay no pillow talk just give us ya money, and this from one of the supposed riches companies… and who else but Microsoft would call their off button ‘Start’?
