Planets and Stars

March 5, 2008

Video: YouTube

Well despite the fact that they have decided to depole Pluto from planet to an asteroid? I’m going to still think of it as a planet… all be it a small one.

As for VV Cephei, the biggest star in this video sequence… it’s actually only the second biggest star in our neighborhood, referred to as our home galaxy, being only some 3,000 light years from Earth. VV Cephei is some 1,900 times the diameter of our sun and several hundred thousand times brighter.

Douglas Adams said in his ‘Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy’… “Space is big”, a magnificent understatement that one would think would cause problems for the Creationists, who amongst their beliefs, believe the universe came to being; according to James Ussher, the Anglican Archbishop of Armagh Ireland, at 9am, I’m assuming a Monday, the 26th October 4004BC.

Well I guess that means that the light could have reached us from VV Cephei in their time frame, but, I’m not sure about the other galaxies, for instance it takes light over 14 billion years to travel from the furthest galaxy that we know of to here… Douglas did say it was big.

Got something to say?
